Umpires

FHC’s Masters program wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the hard work of our Umpires. Thank you for your time and commitment to this important program.

Denise has been umpiring for 25 years, having started her journey under the tutelage of Jenny John and mentorship of Pat Hall, Alison Sweeten and Chris Wilson. Denise worked her way through the Canadian system, reaching the Canadian level where she umpired at all levels of FHC National Championship, CIS (now USport) Champions and FHC-hosted international senior (vs USA) and Junior (vs Argentina) test series for over a decade. Having received the generous support and encouragement from her mentors, Denise is passionate about paying it forward to developing new and aspiring umpires on Vancouver Island. She is a course conductor, assessor and was President of the Vancouver Island Field Hockey Umpires Association from 2012-2021. In addition to umpiring, Denise has been a member of the Vancouver Island Ladies Field Hockey Association for 27 years as player for Saanich Penninsula FHC and for the last (almost) 20 years as Sailor - having just retired from playing this past spring.  Denise also served as VILFHA Director of Communications for several years and President for 5 years, as well as Field Hockey Victoria President and Vice-President off and on for 15 years.  And most recently President of Field Hockey BC since June 2021. She is very much looking forward to the World Master’s experience in Cape Town this fall - her first international (off-shore) appointment!
